Striped Bass are going crazy on shad, blowing up the surface in aggressive boils. The boils have been scattered through out the day, from early morning to late afternoon in to the evenings. Hot water in the low 100’s this week has been burning fishermen and heating up the water to high 70’s. The catfish are also still biting in this heat, in fact the warmer the water the more active the cats will be. Cut baits are working well for both cats and stripers Anchovies, Mackerel, and Sardines are all catching fish at the moment. A gentleman actually caught albino Catfish this week over 10 pounds, the albinos are a rare and beautiful sight. Smallmouth bass are becoming more active, here is Dr. Al’s report.
‘’Hi Danny-
Al Hurwitz of Saratoga and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale caught 15 Smallmouth Bass on 8/20/15 while trolling the lake. Several other fish were hooked but dint stay pinned. Once again a variety of feathered spinners such as Panther Martins and Joe’s Flies did the trick. Scent on the lures seemed to help. We caught fish 5-15 feet below the surface in a 20 foot water column. Most of the fish were caught in Swallow Bay along a shoreline with a lot of structure. The Smallies are getting bigger each week we fish here- we caught a few this week in the 1.5 – 1.75 lbs. Water level was down 1-2 feet, with very good clarity, and surface temperature around 76-78 degrees. Great fishing! See you soon.-Dr. Al Hurwitz’’
Thank you everyone and good luck!-Dan
