Water Temp: 52-55
Water Clarity: 4-8 feet
I hit the delta this past Saturday for the first time in a couple of months. Prior to Saturday I asked around to see what water conditions are like on the delta, everyone I talked to said stained to chocolate and the bite was tough. So I geared up for tough muddy water conditions and hit the delta. I started off fishing big grass flats in the morning with a River2Sea Ruckus and Bling Spinner bait. This was very successful for smaller fish but we couldn’t get any quality fish with a reaction bait. We must have ran 8 to 10 different spawning flats throughout the central delta and wasn’t very successful. So we scratched this game plan and started into the back of creeks.
I wasn’t sure what to expect heading into the back of these sloughs especially with less than a foot of visibility. This time of year I usually start in the back and work my way out, trying to look for staging fish. The first dead end slough I stopped in was a gold mine! I found water clarity up to 8 feet and started catching a lot more quality size fish. The best pattern I ran into was punching dead patches of vegetation with a 1 1/2 Trash Bomb and a Berkley Devil Spear.
I hope this helps on your next Delta Adventure!
