Those anglers locating and keying into warmer water temperature locations at Shasta Lake have been producing great results. A wide variety of baits such as spinner baits, drop shot, jigs and Texas rigged worms are all proving successful as long as you find surface temperatures a few degrees above the surrounding water.
“Fishing Bob”, located some 56 degree water near Centamudi and enjoyed a 3 hour window where almost every cast produced a bass. Other anglers locating 52 and 53 degree water in the Squaw Creek and McCloud Arms were also able to locate good concentrations of bass. Again, higher water temperatures are the key factor.
Spring is a great time to catch great numbers of bass at Shasta and while you may have to sort through a lot of bass in the 12-15 inch range some large spots are available. Many spots are shallow being taken in just a few feet of water. There have also been a good number of smallmouths coming to the net as well. Summer Craw, Aaron's Magic, Oxblood, and shad colors have been reported as doing well. But again, locating the warmer water will hold the key.
