The rain and cold are with us once again. Rain and snow (yes, snow) are forecast for Lake County for the next few days.?? Most of us folks that follow the condition of the lake are excited about the prospects of more water in the lake and spring just around the corner.?? The fishing report for the week includes news of an abundance of crappie being caught, a slower bass bite in the south end of the lake, a better bass bite at the north end, and trout being caught at nearby Indian Valley Reservoir.
So let's start with news from the crappie anglers?Ķ?? Kono Tayee Point and The Four Poles are the two locations we're hearing the most about in the shop.?? The holiday weekend last week saw a big boost in the number of anglers fishing both by boat and from the shore. Most reported doing very well taking crappie on live minnows or on mini jigs in white, chartreuse or silver.?? (Bass Assassin makes some great lures that mix white and silver or white with pearl essence.) Try fishing your bait or lure between five and ten feet below a bobber for best results.
Bass anglers are reporting a pretty slow bite here in the south end of the lake. However, of those anglers that reported catching a few bass during the day, most reported catching fish from six to ten pounds. Lipless crank baits, jigs, drop shots and dart heads on finesse worms have been the key lures. Jumbo and extra large minnows have been favored by those folks that want to up the odds of catching some winter bass.?? Anglers fishing the tules at the north end of the lake have reported catching fish with more regularity.
