Hello fellow anglers, We have had two successful kids fishing derby’s in our area. The Lampe Park kids Derby had 1300 kids attend this year and last Saturday was the Alpine County kids Fishing derby at Indian Creek. My hat is off to all the volunteers that came together to make this such a successful and fun event. Now it is time for the kids to take dad fishing. Fathers Day is this Sunday and what better way to give back than to take your dad fishing. These events are the reason that most kids get hooked on fishing. The first time my father took me fishing, I didn't know what to think. We hiked down to a spot on a lake ( which reminded me of the intro to the Andy Griffith show ). I swear it was the same lake. My first fish was a six inch blue gill caught on a worm and a bobber. I did not know what to do when the bobber started to bob and swim away, my dad told me to reel, so I did for about five feet then I set the pole down and grabbed the line and pulled that fish in. I had caught my first fish. What a great feeling it was, I held on to it for quit a while just admiring my first catch. I caught a few more that morning and mom cooked them up for dinner that night. All through dinner I told the story of how I caught dinner. I was hooked for life. When I was old enough, I made pole holders and a rack on my bike to carry fishing gear. My friend Mike Kunz and I would fish after school almost every night. I thank my dad every day for giving me the gift of fishing. Through fishing, I have met many fellow anglers and made some good friends. The weather is supposed to be back to normal by this weekend, so get out and enjoy our lakes and streams with the family.

LAKE TAHOE; Fishing has been great when the wind is not blowing you off the lake. Best areas have been Cal/ Neva and the north shore. Flashers and a live minnow have been most productive in 130 to 220 feet of water. Average mackinaw has been 2-5 pounds with a few in the 8-10 pound class. For more information call Blue Ribbon Fishing Charters at 530-544-6552.

CAPLES LAKE; Fishing has been good, the water level is at 60 feet. Both of the boat launches are open. Tiffany Lambert from Minden NV caught a 6 pound rainbow on yellow and garlic Powerbait. Jackson Gudel caught a 3.5 pound rainbow on Garlic Powerbait, while Jerry Tamamtini caught a rainbow and a mackinaw trolling lures in the middle of the lake. The general store is open for launching and boat rentals from 8-5 seven days a week. For more information stop by the Caple Lake Resort.

RED LAKE; Fishing has been poor for many shore anglers. The lake has started its annual alge bloom.

WOODS LAKE; The road is open and camping is available. No fishing reports have come in so far.

BURNSIDE LAKE; The road is open now. No reports on fishing activity.

BLUE LAKES; The road is open to the 4th gate into Charity Valley.

CARSON RIVER EAST AND WEST FORK CALIFONIA SIDE; Both rivers are running high, the east fork is a little muddy from the snow run off while the west fork has a slight tint to it. Greg Jennings from Fairoaks CA was fishing this week and caught a 2.0 and a 3/4 pound rainbow using a copper jon nymph. With the warmer temperatures the rivers will be running high for awhile. There are plenty of fish in both rivers you just have to get down to them. Power eggs are productive and will stay on your hook better than Powerbait in faster waters. For more information stop by the Carson River Resort.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR; The fishing has picked up a little. may be due to the recent fish plant of 1800 pounds last Saturday. I camped with friends last week and we caught some small rainbows using Thomas Bouyant spoons while others used Powerbait. The lake level is way up and the lake is clear. The weeds have started to show up but are at a minimal. The boat ramp is open and last week there were anglers with larger boats trolling the lake. Fly anglers have been using an olive wooly bugger with a copper jon trailer. For more information stop by the Creekside Lodge.

TOPAZ LAKE; A fellow angler fished the lake last week and caught 2 rainbows ranging from 15-17 inches long. He was using Rapalas in the middle of the lake. He told me the waters on the south end were pretty dirty due to the run off coming into the lake. No reports from shore anglers this week. For more information stop by the Topaz Landing Marina. They are open for boat launching and rentals.

ALPINE ROAD REPORT; Highland lakes, Poor boy, Schnieder Cow Camp, Forestdale and Silver Hill still closed.

TROUT CREEK, TAYLOR CREEK AND THE UPPER TRUCKEE RIVER; All located on the south end of Lake Tahoe are closed to fishing until July 1, 2016.

NDOW FISHING PLANT SCHEDULE; West Walker River, Baily Pond Davis Creek Park Pond, Spooner Lake, Wilson Common Pond. These plants from through June 9th.

Good luck on your next fishing adventure. If you have a question. a report in our local fishing area or have a photo of your catch, send it to nevada@fishreports.com. Hope to see you on the waters. Good fishin' and tight lines.
