The 2006 fishing year has started slow due to all the weather we have been receiving. I was able to get out this past week and fish McCloud Reservoir. McCloud is in great shape and the Trout bite was very good. I landed 22 Rainbows and 1 Brown Trout over two days (Monday and Wednesday) and all 23 Trout were wild fish. I landed most of the Trout on a K-7 Kwikfish (frog pattern). The key was trolling it near the shore at a depth of 20 to 25 feet. I could have caught more Rainbows if I had continued to use the Sep's Dodger and worm but I was focusing my efforts on those finicky Brown Trout. My efforts paid off as I was heading back to the boat ramp on Wednesday, I  hooked and landed a nice two pound Brown. The Fly fishing was good out near the dam, the Trout were rising for midges off and on in the later in day. Casting a woolley booger bugger to rising Trout was very effective. The Trout that were concentrated out near the dam were hungry, they pretty much hit everthing I threw at them (Dodger and worm, Wooley booger bugger, Kastmaster, Buzz Bomb). The Klamath River is still flowing to high to fish, it is currently flowing out of Ironagte Dam at 3240cfs. If and when it drops below 2500cfs then it will be fishable (1200 to 1700cfs would be ideal flow conditions).
