This lake has been the focus of some debate recently with its low water level. Lake is sitting at 9800 acre feet, which correlates to about 45% capacity, as the Bureau of Land and Reclamation is matching the flow in with the flow out because the Truckee is flowing below 6000 CFS in Reno. June 1st is the expected time that flow will be cut severely below the dam (which in turn will affect fish habitat below the dam) to start filling this lake. With an abundance of snow and rain it is amazing to me and others that utilize this lake for recreation and those who live near it that it hasn’t filled. Since this lake hasn’t seen many stockings of fish over the past few years fishing may be slow until the DFW starts to plant it consistently this summer. The plan is to start stocking Pilot Peak Strain Cutthroats this season with hopes that they will survive attain trophy sized proportions in the years to come.
