2018 SALMON FISHING SEASON OPENS WITH A BUST
The recreational salmon fishing season opened on Sunday, June 17 with a bust. The phenomenal fishing took place on Father’s Day where anglers landed full limits of salmon from the waters six miles southeast of the Farallon Islands to the Deep Reef off the San Mateo County coast. Over in Half Moon Bay was the best they have experienced in over 8 years. On the first two days of the season, the Half Moon Bay charter boat fleet limited-out anywhere from 10:00 to 12:30 p.m. with the salmon averaging from 12 to 24 pounds. On the opening day the Queen of Hearts returned with 23 limits, the New Captain Pete came back with 23 limits, the Riptide checked in with20 limits and the Que Sera Sera had 8 limits for 8 anglers. On Monday, June 18an angler reported taking limits to 22 pounds. The best method was on the troll with anchovies in 35 to 45 feet of water. The salmon have been feeding on krill. Even the boats out of Berkeley, Emeryville and San Francisco reported wide-open fishing on the first two days of the season, also. They located a vast school of salmon covering approximately 12 miles. For more information, call (650) 728-3377 or (707) 422-2050. It can’t get any better.
