Shasta Lake seems to be turning on and the summer numbers are starting to show up in the main body of the lake to feed on the schools of Shad.  We're matching the hatch with smaller spoons and finding great results daily.  Small spoons like the Dick Nite spoon are a favorite this time of the year because they and just about the same size as the Shad rt now.  Shasta is 3-4 weeks behind its normal summer trout fishing pattern so the trout, bass, and Shad are still higher than normal for this time of the year.  I would suggest not going deeper than 50' if you want to catch good neumbers of trout.  There are fish down lower in the lake where the cold water is, but the active feeders will be up higher where the baitfish are.  Its not a normal year so don't get caught up in the idea you shoud be catching trout deep this time of the year, its just not the case this year.  Good luck out there!
