East Walker River
The East is still running at around 340 cfs, the fishing down there is still a little tough at that flow but if you work the slower water and get your flies down near the bottom where the fish are mostly hanging out you should be able to have some success. The streamer action has been pretty good lately as well as the nymphing. There has actually been a few days here and there when the dry action early in the morning has been productive, this doesn’t seem to happen every day but if you time it right it might work for you. The stretch between the dam and the bridge seems to be producing the best lately, it also tends to be a little easier to wade and fish than the lower section.
Recommended Flies:
E/C caddis, elk hair caddis, rainbow warrior, flashback emerger, silver streak, zebra midge, WD-40, buckskin caddis, z-wing caddis, deep sparkle pupa, san juan worm, squirmy wormy, shock collar leech, rubberlegs, slump buster, zuddler, sculpzilla, peanut, hell razor craw, dead drift crayfish.
Sceirine Ranch
We haven’t had any clients on the ranch this past week, like the California side the fishing can be difficult but could definitely be worth the trip!
Hunewill Pond
We didn’t get much news from the pond this week though the damsels should still be hatching out there as well as some callibaetis and various midges. Dodging the weeds and keeping your flies near the surface should produce some good fish for you out there.
Bridgeport Reservoir
Bridgeport has still been pretty consistent this week, lots of nice fish up to 6+ pounds have been being caught out there. There were one or two days this week that were a little slower but overall it’s been pretty good. There is still good action off of Rainbow Point, as well as out in front of the marina and in Buckeye Bay. Most anglers are bait fishing with power bait, crawlers, pinched crawlers and mice tails but if you like to troll you can still get into some fish that way too, you’ll just need to keep a close eye on your lures to make sure they don’t get weeded up. For trolling you can go with needlefish, Thomas Bouyants and small Rapalas.
Kirman Lake
We didn’t hear anything from Kirman this week, if/when we do we’ll pass the information on.
Twin Lakes
The Twins are also staying pretty constistent, lots of nice 3 to 5 pounders are being caught up there. Like Bridgeport, there has been a couple tougher patches this past week but the anglers who are working it and moving around to different spots are doing well. Bait anglers are using pinched crawlers, mice tails and inflated crawlers, lure anglers are going with Thomas Bouyants, Kastmasters and Speedy Shiners. Fly anglers are doing well with wooly buggers, Twin Lakes Specials, matukas and soft hackles.
West Walker River
There is still quite a bit of snow left to melt so the West is still running a little high, the clarity is pretty good and as it comes down it will keep getting better and better. There are some anglers working the faster water lately and doing well, heavier lures are better so they sink towards the bottom more than the lighter ones. Same goes for your bait or flies, add some weight and get them down near the bottom where the fish are hiding.
Virginia Lakes
Up at the Virginias it sounds like the float tubers are doing the best, either drifting bait, flies or mini jigs. It’s been a little tougher from the shore but there are still some fish being caught that way. Mornings and evenings will be the best from the shore both casting lures and bait. During the heat of the day it is usually much better to be out in the water in a tube or kayak as the fish tend to seek out deeper water when the sun in high.

June 23, 2019 - Yesterday was the Bridgeport Fish Enhancement’s annual fishing tournament, it was a great success! The tourney sold out a couple days ahead of time so if you plan on going in 2020 be sure to get your registration information in early so you don’t miss out! There were lots of fish in the 2 to 4 pound range weighed in with a couple over 4 pounds. We also saw stringers weighing on over 12 pounds for the day.
