The lake temperature has been in the upper 70s and has surpassed 80 on a few occasions. These high temperatures are causing the shad to spawn, so we are seeing a lot of shad activity in the early morning. And where you find shad, you’ll likely to find striped bass!
BLUEGILL/PANFISH
All of our Panfish are putting up numbers, Bluegill and Crappie have been favoring Red worms and pieces of night crawlers. Other productive baits have been panfish jigs in a variety of colors. The Panfish are anywhere there is some cover including rocks, trees, and by our handicap dock.
TROUT
We aren’t expecting the trout to pick up again until the water temp starts to drop. We did have one 7lb trout caught this week on salmon eggs. They are all in the deep water by the dam.
CATFISH
We just got 2 big 750lb Catfish plants over the last month and people have been catching them on accident. The catfish always seem to prefer cut baits like Anchovies, Sardines, Mackerel, and Chicken liver. The cats have been being caught all over the lake biting whatever is in front of them, the Narrows and by the dam seem to do a bit better if you are targeting cats.
BASS
The past week the bass have been selective on what they are hitting on, they are still active and biting you have to figure out what they are feeding on that day. Nightcrawlers have been a good producer along with Senkos in a variety of colors usually a 4-5” worm in a more natural color with just a hint of purple or red usually does the trick.
STRIPED BASS
The striped bass action is getting better and better by the day. A lot of action is by the narrows and the hot bait right now is Anchovies. Other baits such as Sardines, Mackerel, Shad, and Shad imitation lures are doing very well. Boils are happening in the early mornings and are getting more and more common to see, still they don’t last too long so if you’re after the boils be here early.
We are seeing plenty of action on the whole lake and we are having lots of fish come in on the daily. Make sure to get your lines in the water while the bite is hot!
Good Luck Fishin’ out there Capt. Devon
