DELTA
The striped bass fishing out on the Delta took an upswing this past week, especially off the West Bank of the Sacramento River where anglers took a number of two fish limits while trolling. The hot bite occurred above Collinsville trolling Yo-Zuri lures, tipped with white plastic worms in 14 feet of water. Most of the legal fish were in the 5 to 8 pound category. Several reported hooking and releasing over 27 keepers along with 3 shakers with Yo-Zuri’s in the clown/rainbow trout patterns with the best action taking place on the last of the outgoing tide and the first two hours of the incoming tide. The lures were presented about 70 to 75 feet behind the boat at four miles per hour. As a bonus a few salmon to six pounds hitting their lures. As we approach the month of September, the fishing will get much better out on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta waterways. At the same time we will see an improvement on the salmon fishing, especially on the Old Sacramento River upstream into the Walnut Grove area. Reports confirm that a few salmon are being caught off the Freeport Bridge by shoreline anglers tossing Flying “C” spinners while trollers are dragging Brad’s Cut Plugs. Some of the salmon are in the 20 plus pound category. Stay tuned for periodic updates on the inland salmon fishing.
LAKE AMADOR
The annual Moonlighter Bass Tournament took place out on Amador Lake and the winning team of Nick Welton and Bobby Yabumoto won first place with a 10 fish limit weighing 34.40 pounds, topped by a 9.15 pound fish. Catfishing is good after dark. Trout plants will commence in the month of October.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY
The halibut and striped bass fishing still prevails in the bay off the flats and rock piles drifting live anchovies. Outside the Gate
party boats are still
converging around Seal Rock for limits of halibut where James Smith aboard the California Dawn reported that one of his clients caught the biggest halibut of the season, a 50 pounder.
OUTSIDE THE GATE
The salmon fishing has been very good off of Duxbury Bouy with most returning with two fish limits by 11:30 am. Most of the fish were 15 pounds or better. The Berkeley based charter boat New El Dorado went far up the coast for salmon and they posted 19 two fish limits to 25 pounds, the New Eldorado III had 32 salmon to 23 pounds for 25 anglers, and the New Easy Rider posted 21 salmon to 22 pounds for 25 anglers.
BODEGA BAY
Salmon to 20 pounds taken off Point Reyes. Reports that the salmon are up and down the line, and you just have to go out and find them.
HALF MOON BAY
The rockcod fishing off of Pescadero has been off the charts in about 50 feet of water. The Huli Cat recently fished the area for 10 limits of rockfish including a 6 pound cabezon.
Take time to go out and enjoy the great outdoors. Until next tide, stay safe to fish another day.
