Its fall on Shasta Lake and the leaves along her shore are starting to color up! Bright leaves mean bright lures are going to be taking big browns and rainbows very soon. The surface temps are dropping into the low 60's and that means the shad will be leaving the main body of the lake and the available forage of the Shasta Lake trout will be significantly reduced. We aren't even close to the turnover, but traditionally the November full moon and fall colors signal the kick off for the fall/winter trout fishery. That means its time to break out the side planers and Trinidad Tackle Optimizers and start hunting big browns heading up the arms to spawn. The lake is still only down 44' from full pool so there should be some great water to fish this year. Stay tuned for more reports beginning in early to mid November. I have lots of dates available for Shasta so start planning your next trip, it should be a great cold water season on Shasta this coming year.
