Truckee River

Truckee River has settled into a winter mode and is fishing typically. Flows are 250-300 cfs and temperatures are fluctuating between 32 to 38 degrees. Fish are in slower water for the most part but on sunny days they are moving into a little faster water to feed. Don’t expect them to stick around in the moving water for long. We’re still waiting for the blue winged olives dry fly hatches to happen, but subsurface the BWO bite has been very good. Fishing small dark flies (18 and smaller) under an indicator has been the most effective way to find feeding fish. My typical winter rig is a size 18 baetis pattern on the point with a red zebra midge off of a tag about 18-24 inches away. I will add weight above both of my flies bringing my entire rig down to the bottom better where the fish should be holding.

Flies we suggest: Spanish Bullet, Quill Jig, Hot Spot, CDC Red Tag, Zebra Midge, Baetis Nymphs, Carot, The Ticket, Para Adams, Para Olive,Psycho May BWO, ID Thief
