The Fall has been a productive fishery this past week, with plenty of people getting out on the water and finding success. Expect to see some other anglers and respect each other’s water and space by asking before just jumping into the same hole. ODFW is still stocking fish but they are not posting any information regarding location, size or amount due to COVID-19. The mayflies have been out with this bright and hot weather we are having so make sure you are stocked on PMD’s and Smaller Baetis drys. Woolly buggers and leeches have been catching some bigger fish when stripped or swung in front of active trout, I’ll try white first and then switch to black sometimes finding one color works better than others (try orange).
The tubes are accessible but I heard that a lot of those fish have moved up towards the hatchery which is still closed to the public. Fishing has been best from the headwaters downstream until you run into private property, target all the fallen timber in the river and try to have a game plan for when you do hook the big one. Two fly indicator rigs, euro nymphing and dry droppers are all great ways to present nymphs to these spooky fish. I fish fluorocarbon and light leaders on a 4wt when I’m out there but your standard 9’ 5wt is a great option as well. Swing on by the shop with any questions you have and we can get you all set up for a productive day out on the water!
