Shasta Lake is fishing quite well, but you have to get after the early bite or you might have a slow day, at least until the second bite of the day goes off.  Keep fishing down 30-40' and get your gear to match the Shad hatch.  Solid color lures work best in the morning, and switching out to shiny, metallic colors seems to be better later in the morning. If natural patterns areen't getting bites, go bold and put on some flashy spoons.  Sometimes they just need to see something out of the ordinary to get their interest. Sharp S-turn patterns will also get some bites when the fishing gets tough.  A lot of times I'll be in a bite lull and a few big turns will draw some strikes when nothing else works.  The trout bite is shutting down hard later in the morning right now so you have to try everything.  Good luck and know that the best fishing is right around the corner!
