- Stocking: So far this season, the lake has been stocked with 3,000 lbs. of catfish. Another 1,000 lbs. will added to the lake the week of August 24th.
- What's the catch? With the return of night fishing, catfish catches were plentiful this week! They were being reeled in all over the lake on Friday night. Fishermen were using dip bait with sponge hooks, as well as the old reliable mackerel and chicken livers. Garlic nightcrawlers were also working. The bass bite has been consistent all summer. Fishermen reported catching bass near the reeds before big rock and off of the t-dock. They were biting on watermelon Senkos and Aaron's morning dawn Roboworms. Bluegill and sunfish were also biting this weekend. A piece of nightcrawler, wax worms or meal worms were the preferred bait. Our rangers recommend after tying the hook on the end of your line, bait your hook and place one BB split shot above the hook. Cast out and let the line drop to the bottom, then reel up two or three feet from the bottom above the grass line and wait for the bite! Sometimes tipping the pole up and down can generate a bite.
- Friday Night Fishing: Every Friday night from 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Boat rentals will be available this weekend, BUT boat launches will not be available! Full sized lanterns required after 8:00 p.m. Lake gate will close at 10:00 p.m.
- Conditions: The water temperature is 80 degrees. For an up-to-date weather forecast in Lakeside click HERE. Helix Water District is pulling 16-18 million gallons of water from the lake per day. The level will go down about 10 vertical feet from July 31 for about a month. Please be mindful of changing shorelines.
- New Dock Update: In addition to a new dock, a new boat launch ramp is scheduled to be poured this week. Boat launches will be suspended next weekend August 21-23, because the concrete will need time to cure. We will offer boat rentals though!
- Help Wanted! The part-time Office Assistant position provides administrative and customer service-based support for the Lake and Campground Operations at Lake Jennings. Duties and responsibilities may include processing invoices, hours entry, bank deposits, assisting customers onsite or over the phone with reservations and questions, etc. For more information CLICK HERE.
- Kayak Rentals and Regulations: Lake Jennings has kayaks for rent! Kayak rentals are $10/hour or $30 for a partial day. Our 10 foot kayaks feature pole holders and comfortable seats. Launching your own kayak? The launch fee is $8/kayak. Your kayak must be a sit-in kayak and at least 10 feet long, not self-bailing and have seats for all persons inside. No sit-on top or inflatable kayaks will be permitted.
