A few anglers have started trolling the estuary in search of an early fall chinook. Chinook will stage in the ocean, but move in and out of the estuary depending on tides. Chinook numbers will continue to build through the month and into early October before they decide to move into the lower river. Anglers are reminded to check the temporary regulations in place this year before heading out to fish. The temporary regulations take effect Oct. 1.

This is a good time of year to target cutthroat trout on some of the larger tributaries of the Chetco.
