A chance of wind and rain this weekend with some unsettled weather for the majority of the extended forecast has me excited to fish the lake! After a few warmer days last week water temperatures have risen to 48 degrees. That is up from 45 degrees just a couple weeks ago. That doesn’t seem like much, but to these Lahontan Cutthroat Trout that is enough of an increase in temperature to get the metabolism moving. We’re seeing more numbers with larger fish showing up mid afternoon.

Both using indicators with midge/balanced leech combos and retrieveing boobies/midnight cowboys has been effective. The fish are more inclined to take a slower retrieve that is as constant as possible. No pauses!  Fish are starting to show signs that they are in preparation for spawning. Fish are traveling into shallow water in greater numbers. We have gotten many double ups in the past couple of weeks. Indicator depth has varied somewhat but most fish are being caught around 7-9 feet off the drop off is deep enough to allow for that depth. If your are fishing a drop off shallower than that then hanging the flies a foot from the bottom has been optimum.
