Sturgeon retention closes in John Day Pool

Action: Closes retention of sturgeon.

Effective date: March 19, 2021

Species affected: White sturgeon.

Location: From John Day Dam to McNary Dam.

Reason for action: Catches increased over the past week. Creel data indicates the quota of 105 sturgeon will be reached by the closure date. 

Additional information: John Day Pool, along with many other stretches of the Columbia River, remain open for catch-and-release fishing for sturgeon. Fishing for sturgeon at night is prohibited.
