We are nearing the end of the trout stocking season. These rainbow trout are brought from the Willow Beach Hatchery part of the National Fish and Wildlife Department. I had to show a typical stocking with the trout coming out of the chute into the water here along the Colorado River. I like to call it our hatchery as the crew there have done so much for us this time around. They have planted over 35,000 fish so far this season and are trying to get about 50 thousand by the 1st of April. It’s usually the weather that slows or stops the delivery or the trout as it can get to hot for transporting the fish do to the distance. This means even with the stocking program ends we still have trout just not as easy to find. I also included an older picture of me holding a limit which shows an average size of our planted fish. We have been very fortunate as the hatchery has brought in a lot more larger fish this year. The rainbow trout will move out from the stocking area usually in 1 to 3 days and anglers will have to us various skills to locate them. The other picture is me again holding a nice striper. These are mostly targeted here in our area both along the shores of the Colorado river below the Davis dam and up on Lake Mohave.
The lake has not been to active as of yet and this will start to pick up as we near warmer weather. I have heard of a few siting's near the opening to the Katherine Landing marina but no hook up or boils as of yet. The Largemouth bass are in pre spawn or already at the nest guarding the nest from predator's. so if your are targeting either the small mouth bass or the large mouth bass its a good time to practice catch and release and in the area where you hooked it to the fish so they will go back and protect the nest. The carp are also in pre spawn and stirring up the water. They can be seen in areas jumping up in the air and coming out of the water. The carp are one of the few fish that can be taken by spear or by bow fishing in this area. Its always a good idea to check your regulations before spearing or bow fishing certain types of fish.
Hope this helps some for now and we look forward to seeing you in soon to share that catch and the story that goes with it. Mostly thanks for all of your support see you soon Now Go Catch A Fish Rusty Riviera marina 520 Riviera Blvd. Bullhead city Az.928-763-8550
