Pyramid Lake has been slower than normal because of the spawn. Fish are in very shallow water and we are seeing dozens of fish a day. The strip/retrieve bite has been best with Booby Flies and Beetles a few fish coming under the indicator on both mini jig leeches and midges. Focus on the fish that are in deeper water and that are not visible. It may be fun to cast to the visible shallow fish, but these trout are busy trying to spawn and by the time you see them they have more than likely have seen you as well.

Have you seen our article on when/why to use ladders at Pyramid Lake?

TO LADDER OR NOT TO LADDER – by Mike Anderson

Flies have varied dramatically day to day. If you are retrieving white boobies and beetles have been best with olive and Midnight Cowboys also doing well. Under the indicator we have picked up a few fish on olive or peacock balanced leeches and midges with white beads are doing well. Fishing should pick up as the fish finish their spawn and return to their normal eating routine.

Pyramid Lake Flies We Suggest: Boobies (Spanish Olive, Cat Whisker, Diablo), Pyramid Lake Beetle, Bellyache Minnow, Jans Tui-Chub, Balanced Leech, Holographic Midge, Pyramid Lake Fly Selection
