After taking a week of much needed time off to catch up around the house, I'll be back on Shasta Lake catchig trout and salmon this week. The rainbows are starting to pile up in the lower lake now and they are hungry! Hopefully the spring bug hatches are finished and we can start presenting baitfish imitations to get the trout and salmon to bite aggressively like they normally do this time of the year. The best is yet to come, but this is the time of the year that we really start to see the bite pick up for both trout and salmon. The rainbow trout bite has been really good when they're zeroing in on spoons, and the Koknaee have been crushing bright spoons as well.. If you're looking for big browns, we'll catch them, but you're fishing for a few bites a day. The King salmon have been showing up, but mid June is when I start getting into the bigger numbers in the early hours of the day. The morning bite has been the best and fishing 25'-40' deep has been taking plenty of fish. After the trout bite fizzles out later in the morning, switching to Kokanee has been a good bet. Fishing the lower lake from the I-5 bridge to the dam has and will be youre best bet for good numbers of trout. Hirz Bay is still producing some good numbers of the biggest Kokanee has right now. I'll be posting a report a few times a week here so be sure to check back often! Thank you!
