The lake held near 29 percent of capacity, and water temperatures have been in the upper sixties. Bass fishing has been good with a decent reaction and finesse bait bite. Jerkbaits and squarebill crankbaits in shad patterns worked well after the wind came up, but otherwise anglers reported working drop shot, Carolina rigs, and Ned rigs down deep. C3 Ice Picks and Shimmy’s in shad colors got the most attention last week, but the bass also bite other small profile offerings in shad and brown colors. Small swimbaits and carefully placed topwater lures boated a few fish as well. The striper were tough last week, but some anglers got into them with jerks and cranks. The key was simply to be in the right spot at the right time. Another option for the striped bass was to troll flies, Kastmasters and deeper diving jerkbaits. Catfish anglers got bite using sardines, garlic scented nightcrawlers, and dip bait.
