Castaic Lake remained at 29 percent of capacity, and water temperatures have been in the mid-sixties. Bass fishing was good last week with large and smallmouth bass biting in 10 to 30 feet of water. Senkos, drop shot, and Ned rigs all worked for bites, but on windy days large and smallmouth also fell for jerkbaits and crankbaits. The striper have been going for jerkbaits too. The jailbirds also fell for trolled umbrella rigs and flies. Striper anglers reported some decent catches on cut baits and a few ten pounders fell for magnum flutter spoons. There was an unexpected trout plant last week and yesterday. Anglers filled stringers using the usual line-up of dough baits, getbentbaits661 minijigs, nightcrawlers, and lures. A few huge striper were reported by anglers throwing magnum topwater and subsurface trout imitations. Catfish ate cut baits, dip bait and nightcrawlers soaked down deep throughout the lake.
