The 2021 Sacramento River King salmon season above Red Bluff is still open through December 31st, but starting January 1st, its time for the wild rainbow trout fishing to take off! Captain Justin Thompson has already started fishing with his drift boat in the Redding area, in between salmon trips down river. The trout fishing is very good and some extra big rainbows are finning around feeding on dropped salmon eggs below the redds. Spawning fall salmon brings a lot of trout to the Redding area, year after year, and the catch and release fishing can be phenomenal. The Sacramento River in Redding is quite low now so we are not running power boat trips until we get some flow increases in the spring. That leaves us with Justin and his shallow water drift boat fishing in the Redding area this winter. We have a two person minimum for these trips, but Justin's drift boat can accomodate up to three anglers. All fishing equipment, flies, and or bait is provided for all of our client groups free of charge during their day of fishing with us. Being limited to one guide this winter season on the Sac River means that fewer available dates will be open on our calendar. Booking these trips sooner than later is recommended if you want to experience this exciting fishery this winter. Thank you!
