The trout have been active particularly on the southern shore. Daniel Reynaga of Escondido had the biggest trout of the past week. Mr. Reynaga’s fish weighed ten pounds even and was caught on a mini-jig in Willow Cove. Other notable catches included Fausto Gonzalez’s 9.20#, Jesse Tran’s 7.60# and Michel Schuler’s 5.60# trout. Mini-jigs or hook up bait along with orange powerbait are what’s working right now.

Limits of catfish are still being reported. Lake Wohlford cats are most frequently caught using chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well on both catfish and carp.

Small to medium sized bass can be found around structure. With the re-introduction of trout to the menu it’s an excellent time to try a big swimbait in hopes of landing a lunker bass.

Crappie are being reported sporadically in small numbers. Most are suspended deep right now. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often present close to shore pre-dawn. They are typically caught using mini-jigs or live golden shiners.
