EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Ice on the reservoir was estimated at 12 inches thick over the weekend. A few anglers caught rainbow trout on worms and PowerBait though the bite was slower than usual for the reservoir. The campground and all facilities are open.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

The water is free of ice and starting to rise. Only a few anglers have been seen recently, so pressure is light. Trout have been taking PowerBait in orange or green colorations. Spinners and spoons are good options for lure anglers. Fly-anglers may want to give midges and nymphs a test run. Campgrounds and all facilities are open..

LAKE MEAD 

 Anglers are getting out early in the day before the winds pick up. As water temperatures continue to warm in the coming weeks, black bass and catfish will become more active. Bass action is already picking up in the Overton Arm where anglers have found good luck with watermelon-colored worms and Jerkbaits. Striped bass have been most active in the evenings. The fish have been taking anchovies just off the bottom.

LAKE MOHAVE/WILLOW BEACH

 Anglers are reeling in stripers at both the north and south ends of the reservoir. Boat anglers have been most successful with anchovies fished off the bottom. Smallmouth bass are chasing swimbaits and plastics around the Cottonwood Cove area. Look for them and catfish in shoreline vegetation and along underwater shelves.

LAUGHLIN

Weekly plants of rainbow trout below Davis Dam have kept anglers busy on the water. The trout are biting on worms, PowerBait, and Mice Tails. The best fishing is being found from the dam downstream through Casino Row to just above the Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area. Largemouth bass action has begun to pick up. The fish are hitting plastics. Most stripers are in the 1- to 3-pound class and taking anchovies.

 WAYNE E. KIRCH WMA

Despite recent snow flurries, all area reservoirs are ice free, but anglers will find some skim ice along the shoreline. Rainbow trout have been eating well while waiting for the ice to melt off. Action should pick up as water temperatures grow warmer.

URBAN PONDS

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has been stocking the community fishing ponds in the Las Vegas area about every two weeks through the winter. The trout typically take a variety of baits and lures, but mealworms often work well this time of year for most fish species in the ponds.
