Sign up for a turkey workshop
ODFW and its partners are offering several wild turkey hunting workshops in early April – for both youth and adults. Sign up to learn everything you need to know to bag a tom this spring. See more details and register.
Responsible shed hunting
Deer and elk shed their antlers in the spring at a time when they are in poor body condition after the winter months. Consider postponing your shed hunting until May or June to avoid stressing animals even more. Read more tips for Responsible shed hunting.
Register your child for hunter education
If your child hasn’t completed hunter education and wants to hunt for spring turkey, check to see where and when classes are available.
Best bets for weekend fishing
- The north and mid-coast coast rivers dropped into prime shape last weekend. And many will continue to fish well into the weekend, when a bit more rain might get more even more fish moving.
- Anglers are catching some spring Chinook on the Columbia, and Chinook also have been entering the Rogue and Umpqua basins.
- Trout stocking this week in the Willamette and SW zones.
- With last week’s rain, many steelhead are moving upstream in the Coos and Coquille rivers and Tenmile Creek.
- Thanks to longer, warmer days largemouth bass fishing is starting to pick up in Tenmile Lakes. Several other warmwater fisheries are starting to wake up a little early due to recent warm weather. Check the zone reports to find out where.
- Steelhead fishing on the Umpqua was very good last week. With a bit of rain in the forecast, the good fishing may last through the week.
- More fresh winter steelhead are entering the middle Rogue River every day.
