The trout bite is sluggish and we have yet to see the benefits of Tuesday’s plant. Jason Volberg of Ramona had big trout honors this week with his 5.70# trout caught using a gold kastmaster in Oakvale Cove. Top baits include kastmasters, mini-jigs, and powerbait.

The crappie continue to be caught from shore. Crappie are most often caught using mini-jigs and live golden shiners.

Largemouth bass are becoming more active with a good number of medium sized bass being recorded in the past week. Shawn Frederick of Valley Center caught a 6.90# bass using a senko worm west of Senior Shoreline. The bass respond well to crawdads or dark colored plastics.

Catfish can be caught throughout the lake, but are most active at either end. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well for both catfish and carp.

The trout are hitting in shallow water. Bob Camilo of Fallbrook...... Read More
