The Lower Deschutes is fishing well and a few big bugs are starting to show up lower down on the river. Nymphing remains the most consistent method for picking up fish but soon there will be some stones starting to crawl about on the banks and a variety of caddis hatching so watch for fish rising. It won’t be long until the salmonflies and golden stones are all over the place. If you don’t see fish rising, a stonefly nymph with a small mayfly or caddis trailer is an excellent tactic, either under an indicator or tight lined. We have heard reports of people picking up fish on sculpin streamers as well. We have an excellent selection of big bugs at both our Bend and Sunriver locations so stop by on your way to the river!
