EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is running about 110 cfs today. The fishing down there has been a little hit and miss with some slow reports coming in but still some pretty good reports as well. The temperatures are still in the low 60’s but we’ve had some reports of a significant amount of moss and/or weeds growing, mostly in the “Miracle Mile” section. Some of the successful reports we’ve received have been with dry/dropper rigs, nymphs and a couple late evening reports with dries. Some patterns to try include: san juan worm, squirmy wormy, psycho prince, darth baetis, flashback emerger, zebra midge, buckskin caddes, Fox’s poopah, z-wing caddis, elk hair caddis, E/C caddis, chubby chernobyl, madam X.

SCEIRINE RANCH

We haven’t had any reports back lately from the ranch but typically it will fish similar to the rest of the river, just not the same crowds. Dry/dropper rigs should be good, as well as some small nymphs and maybe some terrestrials.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

The reservoir fished pretty well earlier in the week but seemed to get a bit tougher the last couple days, there were still some nice fish being caught but it didn’t seem to be as many as earlier in the week. We saw fish up to almost 8 pounds this week, some trolling and some bait fishing. The shore fishing has been slow so it’s important to have a boat, tube or kayak to get out to where the fish are. The successful bait anglers have been using pinched crawlers, mice tails, inflated crawlers and power bait while the successful trollers have been using crawlers, speedy shiners, Rapalas and Thomas Bouyants.

KIRMAN LAKE

We had a couple good reports from Kirman this week with one report coming in from an angler who caught around 15 fish including 1 cutthroat. It sounds like fishing leeches is the thing to do, either dropping them off of an indicator or slow stripping them with an intermediate line. I would guess that scud and damsel patterns would also work this time of the year.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins are kicking out some good fish as well as quite a few smaller rainbows lately, also, the kokanee are biting pretty well up there. Trolling has been producing some fish with Rapalas, Thomas Bouyants and Kastmasters while bait anglers have been having some success with power bait, mice tails and pinched crawlers. Most of the fish are fairly deep so while trolling if you have lead core line or downriggers that will be beneficial.

WEST WALKER RIVER

The West has been fishing fairly well with some decent reports coming in on spinners, bait and some on flies. For lures you can try mini jigs, Mepps and Panther Martins, for bait go with power eggs, salmon eggs or mini crawlers. Fly anglers can try dry/dropper rigs with hoppers, chubby’s and prince nymphs or soft hackles underneath.

VIRGINIA LAKES

The Virginias have been kicking out some good 2 to 4 pound fish as well as lots of pan sized brookies and rainbows lately. Mini jigs, Thomas Bouyants and Kastmasters have all been doing well, and the bait anglers have been using power bait, mice tails and pinched crawlers. Fly anglers should have some success with mini leeches, soft hackles, Twin Lakes Specials and mayers leeches.
