Cooler nights this past week have helped the Truckee River cool down slightly. The morning bite until 10am is still the best time to fish and the most ethical for catch and release fishing. Fishing in the afternoons is still not recommended as the trout mortality goes up in water that is warmer than 64 degrees. If you plan to fish the afternoons, please check the water temperatures before fishing. Flows have dropped slightly in the upper Truckee river for this week. The flows from Tahoe City are 144 CFS, Glenshire area is 149 CFS, and the stateline area is 504 CFS.

FLOWS:Tahoe City 144 CFS, Glenshire 149 CFS, Farad 504 CFS

Tips for the Week

Fish are still holding in the fast water pockets right behind the rocks. Anglers fishing the Truckee River in the morning should be tight line nymphing or using a small indicator. Heavy nymphs will get bites as well right now. There are not a lot of hatches happening during the day, but anglers may see some dry fly activity late in the evening. If you are fishing in an area where it is catch and release, please use a net, keep the fish wet, and put them back quickly.

Suggested Flies

Zebra midges, Zug Bugs, Grasshoppers, Hares Ears, San Juan Worms and Prince Nymphs.
