The trout bite in the Upper Kern is fair for both holdovers and natives since the water has cleared and storms have passed. The water is cooling off and fly anglers are doing the best along the 20-mile stretch with midges, streamers and attractor nymphs, and dry-dropper as the afternoon warms up. Salmon eggs, crickets and minijigs are getting a few bites throughout the day. The Lower Kern Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass action is decent with Get Bent Baits, soft plastics, and Roostertails. Catfish can be found on dip baits, nightcrawlers and cut baits. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River was flowing at 192 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 70 CFS.
