The day use area on the Forest Service side (east side of the lake) and access from the county side (west side of the lake) are open. The concrete boat launch is in the water and launching a boat is achievable. Water clarity is excellent. This is a good time of year to target brown trout. Only boats with a 10-horsepower motor or less are allowed on Cataract Lake. The limit is 2 bass minimum size 13 inches, the limit is 4 channel catfish.

The day use area and boat launch are open, but the campground is closed for the winter. Fishing for trout with small lures, flies, or bait is your best bet for catching fish this time of year. Anglers have reported success fishing for trout from shore. Warmwater species such as bluegill, crappie, bass, and catfish are less active and are congregating in deeper water around cover.
