Winter steelhead typically start to show up in December on the Siuslaw River. Although still a bit early there are a few fish in the system. Forecasted rain this weekend should move more fish in. January and February are typically the best months for winter steelhead on the Siuslaw system.
Due to forecasted low Chinook returns, the Siuslaw basin including Lake Creek and all other tributaries are closed for the entire 2022 salmon season. The Coastal Multispecies Plan (CMP) manages Chinook escapement along the North and Mid-Coast and triggers closures and other management actions during forecasted low returns. This closure includes all salmon fishing for Chinook and coho salmon for the entire 2022 season.
Trout fishing in streams closed on Oct. 31 and will reopen on May 22.
