Ice anglers report fair to good catch rates for rainbow trout using ice jigs, tubes or paddle bugs tipped with nightcrawler. Anglers are reporting 4 to 6 inches of ice, with areas as thin as 2 inches and several soft spots. There is an area of open water immediately west of the Island, and pockets of open water north of the Island toward the river inlet. The edges become super soft by 11 a.m., with roughly 6 to 8 feet of slush at the edges. Multiple people are breaking/falling through the ice when attempting to get off the ice. We advise anglers to use extreme caution, get off the ice early, avoid attempting to get onto the ice when the edges are soft and make ice safety a priority. An ice safety guide is available here
