EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is running at 492 cfs right now, we haven’t talked to anyone who has fished the river for quite some time, we’ll pass on any information as soon as we can. Please see the Random Information below for more details.

SCEIRINE RANCH

We haven’t had anyone on the ranch for several weeks, when we get some reports from down there we’ll pass them on.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

Closed to fishing until April 29, 2023

KIRMAN LAKE

Closed to fishing until April 29, 2023

TWIN LAKES

Closed to fishing until April 29, 2023

WEST WALKER RIVER

The West is open to catch and release fishing with only artificial lures with barbless hooks this time of the year. We haven’t heard of any fishing activity there lately but when the weather warms up a bit at some point hopefully we’ll get some reports to pass on.

VIRGINIA LAKES

Closed to fishing until April 29, 2023

If you would like to receive this report via email, drop me a line at reidfly63@yahoo.com and I'll get you on the list!

RANDOM INFORMATION:

As of today: Highway 395 to the South of Bridgeport, near Mono Lake, is mostly closed but they are shuttling vehicles from 7:00am to 8:30am and from 3:30pm to 5:00pm each day. At this time this is the only way to get past the avalanche clean up area on this section of Highway 395. To get around this you can still travel from Bishop, CA and head towards Hawthorne, NV, then go towards Lee Vining from there, this will let you out North of Mono Lake, about 17 miles South of Bridgeport, and also North of the closure. We’ve been hearing rumor that sometime late this week this section of road will fully reopen, fingers crossed.

Highway 395 North of Bridgeport has a section of road at Topaz Lake that is still 1 lane traffic, they have installed temporary stop lights going both ways, the last couple times I’ve gone through there the wait was less than 10 minutes. This situation will likely last a while, until they can get the eroding road fixed.

Highway 182, which goes North of Bridgeport, passed Bridgeport Reservoir then at the Nevada state line turns to Nevada Highway 338 is still fully closed. There are Nevada DOT personel at the state line turning people back towards Bridgeport, and there are also NDOT personel on the North end of the closure in Smith Valley also turning drivers back. This is a hard closure and they will not let anyone through except for a handful of folks that live within the closed area. This unfortunately means that you cannot get to the “Elbow” section of the East Walker as well as the Sceirine Ranch section, both on the Nevada side. Not sure how long it’s going to take to get the sections of road fixed for this area to get back open.

Aside from the road issues all else is going well, it hasn’t snowed for 5 or 6 days, there’s a chance of snow tonight but it shouldn’t be too much. The snow is melting at a fair rate, all of the lakes are still frozen but there’s plenty of time for them to thaw before the opener, at least that goes for the Twins and Bridgeport, the Virginias may be frozen for some time. I’ll try to keep you updated about how things are thawing as we get nearer to the opener.
