Castaic Lake remained at 96 percent of capacity, and water temperatures remained in the low seventies. Bass anglers reported that the easy spring bite is winding down. Anglers have been working for bites, but there’s still plenty of good fishing to be had on finesse baits, jerks, and cranks. Bass took small worms, reapers, and stick baits in 10 to 20 feet of water with Elizabeth Canyon producing well. Reaction bait fish were reported by anglers tossing jerkbaits and crankbaits into the afternoon mudlines. Striper ate cut baits near the buoy line. They also fell for topwater, Kastmasters, and jerkbaits during the boils. Catfish slurped up dip bait and chicken liver, and trout continue to bite throughout the lake. Most of the rainbows have been by-catch for bass anglers.
