Fishing is generally best when flows are below 3,000 cfs. Currently flows are around 1,800 cfs at the Waterloo gauge as of Aug. 15 and should stay fairly consistent through the summer. Summer steelhead numbers are poor. About 330 fish have made it to Foster so far. ‌

On the other hand, the spring Chinook run was fairly decent this year with over 23,000 fish over the ladder at Willamette Falls. Almost all of these fish are now in their spawning rivers waiting for the right time to spawn. Anglers can still target these fish through the end of August when the season closes. Best times to catch these will be very early or late in the day when temperatures are cooler. ‌

Anglers are reminded that only fin-clipped trout may be kept.
