Water Conditions

With cooler nights happening recently, the Truckee River is fishing well. The watermaster is not releasing much out of Lake Tahoe, so the better flows are from Glenshire to stateline. The Nevada side above Reno is also fishing well. The flows below Boca confluence are awesome for this time of year and the fall season is shaping up to be a nice one. Flows are 107 CFS in the town of Truckee, 154 CFS in Glenshire and 605 CFS at the stateline.

Tips for the Week

Tighline contact nymphing in the riffles with smaller flies and lighter tippet is productive for anglers right now. Indicators and deeper nymphing in the body of the pools is also fishing well as the fish start to spread out after a warm summer. The streamer bite is picking up in the mornings and evenings and we are seeing some nocturnal large stoneflies in the system. Anglers can try a large dry with a nymph dropper as another good option for scoring a bite.

Suggested Flies or Lures

Some suggested favorites to try this week are Sculpzillas, bellyach minnows, smaller crawdads, jigged prince nymphs size 16, slim Jim jig size 18, micro may size 18, or golden stones size 10.
