Water temperatures continue to drop at Comins Lake, with an average water temperature of 530F. Water clarity has steadily improved through late summer and early fall. Subsequently, trout fishing has improved with anglers catching 16-to-20-inch rainbow trout. The trout are exceedingly healthy, with 16-inch trout reaching approximately 1.75 pounds and some 20-inch trout topping the scale at 4.5 pounds. Bait fishermen should have luck with PowerBait, night crawlers, spinners, and a wet fly behind a bubble. Fly anglers should consider nymph patterns and streamers such as wooly buggers and leech patterns with some flash tied in.
With cooler water temperatures, anglers should expect fishing for largemouth bass to slow down.
Anglers are catching northern pike ranging from 18 inches to 30+ inches. Please note that NDOW has placed radio tags in several Northern Pike. These pike will have an orange floy tag near their dorsal fin and a small antenna (~ 7 inches long) coming from their stomach. Please return these fish to the water for research purposes.
