The lake is closed for fishing and to the general public on weekdays throughout the fall, as it is every year. We will return to our seven day a week schedule in mid- December at the beginning of trout season.
A small sampling of DFW trout went in two weeks ago, but our first real trout stock probably won’t occur until mid- December.
Fall is a time when the larger catfish become more voracious and less discriminating in what types of bait they go after. Lake Wohlford trout prefer mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well on both catfish and carp.
Small to medium sized bass are being caught. They are hitting swimbaits, lures, and plastics that replicate shad or bluegill.
Black Crappie are still being caught in small numbers near Bass Point in particular.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. Contest winners must legally catch their fish at Lake Wohlford and have it weighed in by a Wohlford Ranger on our scale. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
