The river saw about a 50 CFS decrease in flows this week, as the week-long storm has slowed down melt from the smaller creeks. Despite the weather, the water temps only came down a few degrees, the water clarity is still good, and the river remains fishing much the same as the previous weeks. We would recommend focusing on indicator fishing during this time, fishing water that is slow and deep. Worms, stones, eggs, midges and baetis are the bugs de jour. Skwalas are still a few weeks away from hatching, but we are already fishing the nymphs with good success and patterns like olive and brown Pat’s Rubber legs in a size 10-8 or Gilligan’s Skipper Stone will be must haves in your box for the few months, so stop in, we’re well stocked. We also have a huge selection of Skwala adults to load up on for both the Truckee and the Yuba River. And so you know, the Yuba is already seeing this emergence right now! For baetis imitations we have been doing good on olive Micro Mays, Anato-Mays, Pheasant Tails, Juju Baetis, as well as various perdigon style flies.
If you would like to go fishing with us please check out our website Trout Creek Outfitters.com or call (530) 563-5119.
