Pyramid saw another slow week of fishing, which was expected with the sunnier days. In the long run these warm days will bring water temps up and initiate the annual cutthroat spawn.

However, in regard to this week, the water is still in the low 40’s, keeping the fish looking for that deeper water, making slow days for the shore angler. During these days, the best bet will be to get out on a float tube or a boat and gain access to the deeper water that the trout are holding in throughout the day. Using a slip strike indicator or stripping streamers, seeking out a depth of 12-16 feet will get you into some consistent fishing instead of waiting for those windows of good fishing when a school of fish decides to move in shallow.

We expect the fishing to really kick into gear in early April, until then is will likely be a grind on most days, with the occasional days of good shore fishing and a “you should have been here yesterday” from the angler next to you. With the stormy overcast days this week, we would like to think the fishing may pick back up for a day or two, but after the up and down fishing all year, it’s really anybody’s guess at this point. One thing we will tell you for sure though, is at some point soon it will turn on. Mark our words.
