The East Walker on the California side of the state line is closed until April 27. 2024. The Nevada side of the river is open through the Winter.

 

The East has been bumped up to about 212 cfs now, it’s still fishing pretty well but it is a bit more difficult than when it was at a lower flow. You’ll have to add some additional weight to get your flies down towards the bottom and likely lengthen the distance betwen your indicator and weight. Most of the action has still been with nymphs and streamers and with the increased flow I haven’t heard any news about dries or dry/dropper rigs lately. Wading can be a bit more difficult with the higher flows so be careful and don’t be shy about using a wading staff. Some patterns to try include: Ziwi, Dali Lama, sculpzilla, rubberlegs, wired stonefly, poxyback stone, perdigon, picky eater perdigon, flashback emerger, copper john, dark lord.

 

The ranch is fishing very similar to the Rosachi section, lots of good fish up to around 22” or so, mostly on streamers and nymphs. As with the Rosachi the higher flows make it necessary to increase your weight and lengthen your indicators. I would expect the flows on the EW not to come down too much now that the weather is getting warmer but there are still plenty of fish to be caught down there!

 

We had several good reports from the pond this week with most anglers reporting 6 to 10 hook-ups for a half day session, not that all of those fish were landed but the bite is pretty good. Heavier tippets are in order on the pond right now as the fish are very large and very strong. Most of the action has still been on small leech patterns like Mayers mini leeches and soft hackles. Other patterns that usually work out there are stillwater nymphs, seal buggers, Solitude mini leeches.

WEST WALKER RIVER

Didn’t hear any news from the West this week, the water is still pretty cold but you should be able to scrounge a fish or two up there with some attractor nymphs, small streamers or maybe a Panther Martin or Mepps spinner. Be sneaky, the water is still very clear and the fish are likely to be fairly spooky.
