EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is up to about 312 cfs as of a couple days ago, this has caused the fishing to be a bit tougher but we’re still getting some pretty good reports from down there. The wading can be difficult at this flow so you’ll need to be very careful while in the water. You’ll need to add some weight to our nymphs and streamers with this kind of flow but if you get your flies down towards the bottom you should be able to pull some good fish. Some of the successful patterns lately have been: cousin it sculpin, ziwi, Dali Lama, dead drift crayfish, pats rubberleg, wired stonefly, rainbow warrior, darth baetis, copper john, micro mayfly.

Also, some food for thought, in the Fish and Wildlife Departments infinite wisdom they have decided to not make barbless hooks mandatory on the East Walker, this is absolutely going to be detrimental to the life if this amazing river in the future, if you care at all about the East Walker and its sustainability, please pinch your barbs, if everyone adheres to this practice it will help the East Walker River to keep on being a world class fishery. Thanks for your consideration.

SCEIRINE RANCH

The ranch is pretty much in the same boat as the Cali side of the river, the higher flows have made it a bit more difficult but there are still good fish being caught. Much of the same patterns that are working on the Cali side are also working on the Nevada side as well as the ranch.

HUNEWILL POND

The pond is still fishing excellent, we haven’t had any poor reports at all this week with all of the anglers who were out there reporting having great days, some up to 20+ fish. The Hunewill Ranch planted 400 pounds of catchable sized fish yesterday who will likely be ready to roll today so there will be some smaller fish to go with the larger ones that were hold over from last year, this is great news as the future will be good with some new fish growing up in there! Leech patterns and soft hackles are still the go to patterns and the weeds are still not a problem at all on the pond.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

We’ve had good reports from anglers trolling as well as fishing from the shore down near the dam on the Reservoir. The trolling has been good with 10 to 30 fish being reported per day to the boat, Rapalas, Thomas Bouyants and night crawlers have all been doing well. Bait anglers have been using pinched crawlers, micetails and power bait as well as inflated crawlers. Most of the fish we’re hearing about are in the 2 to 4 pound ranbe with a few that are tipping the scale at 5 to 7 pounds.

KIRMAN LAKE

We didn’t hear any news from Kirman this week but when we do we’ll be sure to pass it on.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins are still fishing well with good reports coming in from shore anglers as well as boat anglers. The boat anglers are doing the best trolling with Rapalas, Thomas Bouyants and needlefish and the shore anglers are having some success casting lures as well as fishing bait like Power Bait, inflated crawlers, pinched crawlers and mice tails. Most of the fish we’re hearing about are also in that 2 to 4 pounds range with some smaller fish as well as some larger fish also being caught.

WEST WALKER RIVER

We didn’t hear any news from the West this week, I would expect that with the warmer weather we’re getting it’s going to be a little higher than normal so things might be a little tough up there right now.

VIRGINIA LAKES

As far as we’ve heard there is still ice on the Virginias, we’re not sure how good the ice is holding out at this time though. This time of the year we would encourage you to be cautious and if there are any blue spots on the ice to stay off in those areas. As the weather warms up the ice will of course melt and the lakes up there should be fishable pretty soon.
