The Lower Deschutes has been fishing great. Salmonflies and golden stones are all over the bushes around Maupin and more and more bugs are showing up daily further up river. The hatch is in full swing now down low and working its way up river.. Targeting fish in close to the banks that are waiting for salmonflies to fall from the grass and branches is a good bet now. Higher up river towards the day stretch utilizing a dry-dropper setup with a jimmy legs under a large salmonfly dry will help find fish who haven’t keyed into the hatch yet. The hatch should be in full swing in the day section in about a week. As always swinging around a sculpin, crayfish or leech is a fun way to target fish down there.
