Water Conditions
The Truckee River is currently flowing at optimal levels for this time of year, providing ideal conditions for anglers from Tahoe City to the Nevada border. The current conditions help the fish spread throughout the entire river system, which offers more opportunities for anglers to get some bites. However, it is essential to note that as the summer temperatures continue to rise, water temperatures will heat up quicker, so start packing a thermometer to check the water before fishing. The current flows on the Truckee River are as follows: 296 CFS out of Tahoe City, 304 CFS through Truckee, 397 CFS near Martis Creek, and 985 CFS near Farad.
Tips for the Week
Anglers nymphing in the mornings and afternoons on the Truckee River have been yielding some nice catches. With hatches occurring once the sun has set, dry fly fishing in the evenings has been particularly enjoyable. Anglers have seen caddis and small yellow stone flies with an additional presence of some larger gold stones on the water. It is advisable to be prepared for multiple fishing techniques. Starting the day with an indicator set up and transitioning to a dry fly set up in the evening seems to be the preferred approach.
Suggested Flies or Lures
Some fly favorites to try this week on the Truckee River are Missing Link Caddis size 18, E/C Caddis size 16, Little Yellow Sally size 16, OCD Caddis Green size 14, and Electric Rock Worm Green size 18.
