Lake Del Valle Fishing Report

Del Valle Lake - Livermore, CA (Alameda County)

Paul Clouse and Al Hurwitz were pleased to see a continued “uptick” in the Smallmouth Bass activity at Lake Del Valle. We trolled the lake on 8/8/24, using 1/4 oz RoxStar Feathered Spinners and a 1/4 oz Feathered Aglia Spinner. The spinners were kept about 21-23 feet below the surface in 30-40 foot water columns using leaded line attached to fluorocarbon leader. Ample scent was applied to the lures. We hooked up and released about 15 Smallmouths, a number of them in the 1.5-2 pound range. Many of the strikes were off the northwest point entering Heron Bay in very clear water. Other hits were in multiple areas of rocky and grassy underwater structure along the western shoreline. Attached are photos with Al (left) and Paul (right) holding Smallies after a nice “double” hookup. Other shots are of Al with a 1.3 pound, and Paul with close to a 2-pound Smallmouth Bass.

The lake level is down further from last week, with a surface temperature about 77 degrees. The water is extremely clear in the northern half of the lake, making it for ideal trolling conditions.

Thanks once more to the Del Valle staff for all their help.
All the best,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
